Green Games is a European Erasmus+ project dedicated to accelerating the transition toward environmentally sustainable sport events. The project explores current sustainability practices in the sports sector, identifies good examples across Europe, and develops practical tools to help event organizers reduce their environmental footprint.
A key outcome of the project is the creation of the European Protocol for Green Sport Events — a comprehensive roadmap designed to guide clubs, federations, and event organizers in implementing sustainable measures related to energy use, waste reduction, mobility, resource management and community engagement.
Green Games will also introduce the Green Games Network Web-App, an online platform enabling sport event organizers to access guidelines, share best practices, follow training modules and apply for certification as a “Green Event”.
With partners from Serbia, Romania, Spain, the Netherlands and North Macedonia, the project supports the EU’s priorities on climate action and sustainable development, empowering the sports sector to lead by example and promote environmental responsibility through sport.
The project runs from 2024 to 2026 and aims to raise awareness, build capacity and inspire greener and more responsible sport events across Europe.
